Embark on a citizen science expedition traversing Great Barrier Reef’s length, focussing on reef systems, islands, turtle nesting sites and mangroves alongside experts of the region.
Visit the Mon Repos Turtle Centre and enjoy a ranger guided Turtle Tracks and Tales walk exploring the conservation park and learn about turtle conservation, research, turtle tracks and nesting sites
Learn about the Coral Restoration Program and how corals are planted and rejuvenated across the Great Barrier Reef
Snorkel and dive at John Brewer Reef, home to the largest installation of Museum of Underwater Art (MOUA) sharing in a message of reef conservation and restoration
Lend a hand to the volunteers at the Cairns Turtle Rehabilitation Centre, where sick and injured turtles are card for before being returned to the wild
Meet and learn about how you can collaborate with the Project Manta team, a multidisciplinary research collaboration focusing on the population ecology and biology of manta rays within Australian waters
Participate in scientific and conservation efforts to monitor and research marine biodiversity through programs including Eye on the Reef, GBRMPA Sightings Network, Coral Watch and Mangrove Watch
Guest Lecturer: Jodi Salmon – Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Marine Biology and Marine Parasitology. Over the past 15 years, Jodi has built a dynamic career as a marine researcher and conservation biologist, specialising in citizen science, reef ecology, and eco-leadership.



Arrive at Brisbane International Cruise Terminal at 10:00 am and board Coral Discoverer. Settle in, meet your guest lecturers and Expedition Team, and receive an overview of the citizen science program. Later, enjoy mingling and Captain’s Welcome Drinks as we depart for our reef journey.
Spend a day and a half at Lady Elliot Island sanctuary. Join lectures on species identification and Project Manta research. Snorkel or dive with manta rays and other species, contributing to marine surveys in a vibrant, biodiverse marine ecosystem.
Visit Mon Repos Turtle Centre for a ranger-led excursion on loggerhead turtle nesting. Explore coral restoration at Monsoon Aquatics, learning innovative techniques to regenerate reef habitats and support long-term reef health.
Snorkel or dive at Wistari Reef, a biodiversity hotspot in the Southern GBR. Attend expert-led talks on reef resilience and conservation. If possible, explore underwater via glass-bottom boat for unique marine views and data collection.
Relax in Scawfell Island’s secluded cove. kayak, beachcomb or join a glass-bottom boat tour. Weather permitting, join fellow voyagers for beach drinks and a BBQ under the stars, surrounded by nature’s peaceful beauty.
Enjoy guided hikes: choose Dugong‑Sawmill track to explore island ecology or Whitsunday Peak for panoramic views. Afternoon snorkels or dives at pristine reefs. Visit Langford Island’s lookout and learn about its unique flora, including rare Bottle Trees.
Dive or snorkel John Brewer Reef to explore Jason deCaires Taylor’s underwater sculptures that support reef restoration. Continue marine surveys in surrounding waters and observe turtles, rays and reef fish in their natural habitat.
Explore the thriving reef at Yamacutta, participating in Coral Watch citizen science monitoring. Be part of research efforts and contribute to biodiversity tracking—maybe even spot the manta ray discovered on earlier voyages.
Spend a day on Fitzroy Island. Hike through rainforest or climb to the lighthouse for sweeping Coral Sea views. Snorkel fringing reefs, relax on the beach, or join a glass-bottom boat tour. Visit the Cairns Turtle Rehab Centre and meet volunteers caring for turtles.
Explore the vibrant reef surrounding Sudbury Cay by snorkel, dive, or glass-bottom boat. Later, walk onto the cay to feel soft sand beneath your feet and enjoy joyful sunset drinks in a serene Coral Sea setting.
Arrive at Cairns Cruise Liner Terminal at 8:00 am. Disembark and say farewell to fellow guests and crew. Enjoy complimentary transfers to Cairns CBD or airport; transfers to Northern Beaches or Port Douglas can be arranged onboard as needed.
