2. Where is Kofiau Island?
Kofiau Island is located in the Raja Ampat archipelago of West Papua, Indonesia, to the southwest of the main islands of Waigeo and Batanta. It’s one of the smaller, more remote islands in the region, surrounded by crystal-clear waters, coral reefs, and small islets.
3. What can I see there?
At Kofiau Island, you can experience:
- Dancers from Deer Village (Kampung Deer) and their traditional boats
-
Vibrant coral reefs with abundant marine life, ideal for snorkelling and diving, such as the coral gardens of Boo Kecil, which is known for its manta sightings.

Traditional Papuan villages with warm local hospitality
-
Dense tropical forests rich in flora and fauna
-
Secluded bays and small islets perfect for kayaking or photography

Spectacular sunsets over the remote Raja Ampat seascape
- Endemic bird species, including the Kofiau monarch and Kofiau paradise kingfisher
Kofiau Paradise Kingfisher
The Kofiau Paradise-Kingfisher (Tanysiptera ellioti) is an exquisite bird found only on Kofiau Island. It’s known for its brilliant blue and white plumage, long tail streamers, and distinctive red bill. This elusive species inhabits lowland forests, where it feeds on insects and small invertebrates.
